¡¡NOS VAMOS A EUROPA!!

¡¡ESTAMOS A PUNTO DE DESPEGAR!!

El próximo 10 de octubre, a las 18:30, hora española, el IES José María Infantes zarpa a bordo de la sonda Clipper, un fascinante proyecto de la NASA que busca un océano líquido, susceptible de albergar vida, bajo el hielo de EUROPA, una de las lunas de Júpiter.

Muchas misiones espaciales llevan mensajes de la humanidad, con la esperanza de que, en su camino, puedan ser recibidos. La sonda Clipper envía una placa con un precioso poema, los símbolos químicos del hidrógeno y el hidroxilo, la representación acústica de la palabra agua en 103 idiomas, una frecuencia de radio ideal para la comunicación, y los nombres de 2,6 millones de personas en todo el mundo que participaron en la campaña MENSAJE EN UNA BOTELLA. El José María Infantes es uno de ellos. También enviamos nuestros mensajes, grabados en un chip de silicio adherido en el centro de dibujo que representa una botella en el sistema joviano y las órbitas de sus cuatro lunas más grandes.

¿Y cómo nos embarcamos en esta aventura? Hace años que participamos en proyectos europeos.

Nuestro primer proyecto Erasmus STEPS se centró en el turismo sostenible. Investigamos posibles destinos turísticos interesantes que promuevan el valor educativo, cultural y científico, así como lo lúdico y deportivo. Descubrimos el ASTROTURISMO: el buen clima de los cielos andaluces se combina con la ciencia, la mitología, la naturaleza, el deporte, como senderismo, y el misterio de la noche. En nuestra ESCUELA MUSEO encontramos que el arte nos cuenta miles de historias de dioses y planetas que están dibujados en las estrellas. Así que leemos mitos en los cuadros y nos aventuramos en la astronomía y la ciencia.

El curso pasado participamos en el proyecto europeo Erasmus Plus AGUA coordinado por el Archigynmasium Soest de Alemania: una campaña de sensibilización para ayudar a proteger los humedales y la vida salvaje que depende de ellos. En nuestra búsqueda de agua, encontramos EUROPA, y la SONDA CLIPPER, que nos dio la posibilidad de aprender sobre la importancia de proteger el agua en la tierra y la esperanza de hallarla en el sistema solar. Y nos unimos a la misión. Es nuestro grano de arena para hacer llegar ese mensaje de la humanidad. ¿De verdad alguien o algo podrá desvelar nuestro mensaje? Bueno, nosotros hemos sido capaces de comunicarnos con antiguas civilizaciones, descifrando pinturas rupestres, jeroglíficos o los textos de la Piedra Rosetta. ¿Quién sabe?

OFF TO EUROPA!!

WE’RE ABOUT TO TAKE OFF!!

On October 10th, at 18:30 Spanish time, IES José María Infantes will travel aboard the Clipper Spacecraft, a fascinating NASA project that seeks a liquid ocean, possibly capable of sustaining life, beneath the ice of EUROPA, one of Jupiter’s moons. Many space missions carry messages from humanity, hoping that, along the way, they may be received. The Clipper Spacecraft is sending a plate with a beautiful poem, the chemical symbols for hydrogen and hydroxyl, the acoustic representation of the word «water» in 103 languages, an ideal radio frequency for communication, and the names of 2.6 million people worldwide who participated in the «MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE» campaign. Our school, IES José María Infantes is one of them. We also send our messages, recorded on a silicon chip attached to the drawing center representing a bottle in the Jovian system and the orbits of its four largest moons.

And how did we embark on this adventure? We have been participating in European projects for years. Our first Erasmus project, STEPS, focused on sustainable tourism. We researched interesting tourist destinations that promote educational, cultural, and scientific value, as well as recreation and sports. That’s how we discovered ASTROTOURISM: the favorable climate of Andalusian skies combines with science, mythology, nature, and sports like hiking, along with the mystery of the night. In our SCHOOL MUSEUM, we found that art tells us thousands of stories about gods and planets that are drawn in the stars. So, we read myths in paintings and venture into astronomy and science. Last year, we participated in the Erasmus Plus AGUA project, coordinated by the Archigynmasium Soest in Germany: an awareness campaign to help protect wetlands and the wildlife that depends on them. In our search for water, we found EUROPA and the CLIPPER SPACECRAFT, which gave us the opportunity to learn about the importance of protecting water on Earth and the hope of finding it in the solar system. And we joined the mission. It is our small contribution to help send that message from humanity.

Will anyone or anything truly be able to uncover our message? Well, we’ve been able to communicate with ancient civilizations, deciphering cave paintings, hieroglyphs, or the texts of the Rosetta Stone. Who knows?
